Scientist who helped Russia modernize Shahed drones was exposed
In Kharkiv, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a 72-year-old scientist who collaborated with the Russian military-industrial complex. The man was developing drawings for the modernization of Shahed kamikaze drones.
This was reported by the SSU press service on Wednesday, October 30.
Scientist from Kharkiv helped the Russians
According to the special service, the scientist improved the engines and catapults for Shahed drones and transferred his developments to an acquaintance — the director of a Russian factory that manufactures components for drones.
The SSU noted that the Kharkiv resident used e-mail and messenger to communicate with the Russians, disguising his work as scientific research in the field of UAVs. He also involved a former student in the project, who moved to Russia after the war began and is working on drones for the Russian army.
"During the searches, computer equipment, a mobile phone and flash drives with evidence of subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation were seized from the scientist. He was informed of suspicion of aiding the aggressor. The man faces up to 12 years in prison," the report says.
Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine detained four agents of Russian special services who transmitted coordinates for strikes on positions of the Armed Forces in the Donetsk region. The suspects face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Moreover, in the Kharkiv region, a woman publicly denied Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and was waiting for the re-occupation of her settlement.
